Astronautical Engineering

Astronautical engineering is an engineering discipline that deals with the design, production, and operation of satellites, rockets, spacecraft, and other space vehicles. Astronautical engineers specialize in various areas such as the physical design of vehicles to work in space, trajectories, power systems of rockets, communication, flight control, satellite technology, and other components. Engineers working in this field manage complex space projects by bringing together information from various disciplines. Space engineers also play a role in managing space missions, such as launching rockets, placing satellites, and controlling spacecraft throughout their mission durations.
Due to the increasing interest in space technologies worldwide and in our country, our Astronautical Engineering Department was established in 2019, concurrently with the Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences. Our department has 1 professor, 2 assistant professors, and 7 research assistants. Our department collaborates with defense industry organizations such as TUBITAK-SAGE, TAI, ASELSAN PRECISION OPTICS, and ROKETSAN.
